Who we are

Nerdz Health (nerdzhealth.com) is owned and operated by BrainFeed Solutions (“we”, “us”), which is responsible for the personal information described here. The site publishes general health information for people who spend long hours at a screen. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the site, why, and what you can do about it. If you have any questions, contact us through our contact page.

What we collect and why

When you read the site. Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, to keep the site running and secure.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which articles they read and how they found us. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser. We use this only to improve the site. You can block it with your browser’s privacy settings or the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Newsletter. If you subscribe, we collect your email address and send it to Mailchimp, the service we use to send our emails. We use it only to send you the newsletter. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops further emails.

Contact form. If you send us a message, we receive your name, email address, subject and message by email so that we can reply. We do not use these details for anything else.

Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser details to help detect spam. Your comment and name are shown publicly; your email address is not. An anonymised version of your email address may be sent to Gravatar to show your profile picture if you have one.

Cookies

The site uses a small number of cookies:

  • Google Analytics cookies, to count visits and understand how the site is used (only if you accept).
  • WordPress cookies, which remember your name and email if you choose that option when commenting.
  • Cookies set by embedded content, such as a YouTube video when you play it.

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept these cookies. Google Analytics and the Mailchimp website script only load if you click Accept. We store your choice for six months in a small cookie called nh_cookie_consent. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them.

Services we use

Some information is processed by these providers on our behalf:

  • Google (Analytics, and fonts loaded from Google’s servers)
  • Mailchimp (newsletter, and a website script that loads only if you accept cookies)
  • Gravatar by Automattic (comment profile pictures)
  • YouTube (embedded videos, only when you play them)
  • Our web hosting provider, which stores the site and its backups

These providers may store data outside your country. Each has its own privacy policy.

How long we keep information

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Contact messages: as long as needed to deal with your message.
  • Comments: for as long as the comment is published.
  • Analytics: for the retention period set in Google Analytics.

We do not sell your information

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it except with the services listed above, or where the law requires it.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. To make a request, contact us through our contact page. We will respond as soon as we reasonably can.
